Shows how one man can install drywall on a ceiling using a simple, inexpensive jig. Hanging sheetrock on a ceiling can be a challenge for even two men but this technique makes it almost fun even when you hang the gyproc yourself. Telescopic paint roller handles are used here but any equivalent deadman would work just fine. Google “drywall deadman” to find out more. The ratcheting cargo bar (or jack) is essential for this technique to work properly. This kind of Cargo Bar is generally used to secure loads in pickups. Harbor Freight Tools and others sell these for about $20.00. The main jig though is the adjustable (telescoping) closet rod – these can bought for $4.00 or so. Of course any kind of plastic pipe that will fit loosely over the rod will work fine – abs is used in this video. If you are working with 12 foot drywall simply use two closet rods appropriately spaced.

The adjustable paint roller handles are a great idea. you can add a sanding pad to them for more support.

Friggin awesome! I have a couple similar ways of hanging drywall on a ceiling myself but the adjustable clothes rack with a piece of PVC in the center will be extremely useful on my next ceiling. I too have (one) of those cargo lifts and it too is an awesome tool. I just went to my garage and took one of those bars and slid about six 1″ couplers onto it and tossed it in my truck!
I’ve done this with a 54+ inch 1×2 and blocks but your idea is way better and easier to store!

I like the abs roller idea – simple and efficient. a little off-topic – if leaving in a low-temp climate, wouldn’t you put some insulation on top of the drywall, to keep the head in?
