0 Quadster HPVThe Quadster HPV is a home-built human-powered vehicle, inspired by the “horseless carriage” of days gone by. It is designed for practicality and comfort, though it is capable of surprising speed. It is light weight for a two-seater, under 35 kg (~75 lb), stable and easily maneuvered – a fun alternative for pleasure and short trips.

Both riders have 21 speeds, independently controlled and paced. The pilot handles the under-seat steering and brakes. It’s just the right width for trails and bike lanes, under 1200mm (47 in.) wide.

The frame is steel, all components are premium and commonly available: Sugino short-stroke 152mm crankset, Avid BB7 brakes, Shimano Ultima bar-end shifters, derailleurs and freewheels, Velocity Dyad 700C rear and 20-inch front wheels, and more. To tame the elements, fairings and fenders can be added.

I have 2 ocean kayaks that are probably around 9 feet, and I have a Ford Explorer Sport Trac, which has a short bed.
I always go kayaking at a local spot in my neighborhood about 5 minutes away, so it’s alright to strap them in the back of my truck, but I want to go to a further place, about 25 minutes away.
I have 2 tie-down straps that keep them pretty safe on the bed, and I always have red ribbons to show that they hang off, but I want to know if it is safe (and legal) to drive with them in the back?
Thank you!

I do it all the time with two or three kayaks in my trucks, both of which have 8 foot beds. The kayaks are 9.5 feet and 10 foot so a good two foot sticks out the back.

But the truck I just got rid of was a short bed and the kayak I had then was a ten footer, even longer than yours.

I had those tie down handles on the inside of the bed and just put a rope through there, then through the rope handle on the kayak, front and back. Often traveled going 60 mph, no problems.

If you turn the kayaks upside down to minimize air flow getting in the cockpit and pulling them up and also strap them down good and tight they should be fine, I doubt they’ll even move. Don’t forget, the cab of the truck will create a dead air zone immediately behind it. The red flags should eliminate any chance of getting pulled over by police.

0 Aero TV: Tow Bar Revolution Redline Aviations SidewinderLinn Kastan Introduces the Portable Aircraft Power Driver

Like many aircraft owners, Linn Kastan, the owner of Redline Aviation, LLC., grew tired of the hassle and exertion it took to move his aircraft. So, Kastan set out to find a simple, lightweight alternative to the electric and gas-engine powered tugs commonly found on the market. After years of design development, Kastan has introduced an incredibly innovative solution, the Redline Aviation Sidewinder.

Weighing less than 22 pounds and able to collapse to 27 for easy storage in the cargo hold, the Sidewinder is a truly portable tool for aircraft repositioning.
The key to its straightforward, yet powerful design is the Milwaukee right-angle drill drive system.

Motorized by a 28-volt lithium ion battery, the unit operates at about 700 RPM and is able to recharge from empty in only 45 minutes. To give an idea of the units power, Kastan was able to tug a fully fueled B55 Baron 100 yards across a hangar row without battery failure. Made in the U.S. using 4130 Chromoly tubing, the Redline Aviation Sidewinder is available for a large variety of single and twin-engine aircraft from Beechcraft, Cessna, Piper, Mooney, Eclipse, Cirrus, and Rockwell.

0 SJ X2000 High speed Train | Copenhagen CargoX 2000 is the brand name of Sweden’s tilting 200 km/h high-speed train class X2, which is constructed by ADtranz and operated by SJ. It was launched in 1990 as a first-class only train with a meal included in the ticket price, and free use of the train’s fax machine. There is a bistro on board that serves snack bar-style dishes.
The trains were initially used sparingly to avoid breakdowns. From 1995 the trains were used more intensively and second class was introduced.
The train’s designated top speed is 210 km/h (but during a trial with double locomotive units in 1993 it reached 276 km/h), but the maximum allowed speed in regular traffic is 204 km/h (127 mph) since the signal system (and systems like the catenary) are not built for more for safety reasons, and as it shares the track with regular trains and as most of the lines it uses were built in the mid to late 19th century. The 19th century railways Stockholm-Göteborg/Malmö are relatively straight, since they were planned the shortest way without taking intermediate cities into account, and the landscape is relatively flat. Other 19th century railways are generally curvier. In comparison to other high-speed trains, the X2000 is not particularly fast; but compared to regular train services, it cuts journey time by about 25% – enough to make it competitive with airlines on many routes. It typically averages about 150 km/h (90 mph). The fastest part is Katrineholm – Skövde, a distance of 180 km (approximately 112 miles) that is covered in 1h 2min, resulting in an average speed of 174.2 km/h (108.74 mph).
In 2000-2004, seven trains were operated by Linx on the lines Oslo-Gothenburg-Malmö-Copenhagen and Oslo-Stockholm. Linx was a joint venture between SJ and its Norwegian counterpart NSB. It was wound up when SJ wanted to move the trains to more profitable lines in Sweden. Low-fares airlines also played a part in siphoning off passengers from the comparatively slow Linx services, the main ones taking well in excess of three hours.
All trains are equipped with wireless LANs for passenger access to the Internet and were repainted grey as of 2005. The trains also have electric power supply sockets at all seats in both first and second class. The trains have been fitted with repeaters to improve mobile phone reception.
X2000 is a brand name for a number of train connections. Generally the X2 train is used, but because of lack of vehicles, relatively often (especially year 2009/2010) other train types are used, like X40 or Rc locomotive plus cars. These connections are called X2000 on the tickets anyway.

The Regina is a Swedish model of electric multiple unit passenger train, manufactured by Bombardier Transportation (formerly ADtranz). It is used by the national passenger railway SJ along with numerous regional and private operators, in variants designated X50, X51, X52, X53 and X54, and in two- and three-carriage models. The Regina is wider than other Swedish trains; at 3450 mm, it allows five-across seating, increasing passenger capacity by 25%. The car body is built of stainless steel, with only bolsters and coupler pockets made of mild steel. The length is 5480 m, and the capacity 165-294 seats. A variant of the Regina is used in China as the CRH1.
Top speeds of various models range from 180 km/h to 200 km/h (112 mph to 125 mph). As part of the Gröna tåget (the green train) project, a modified Regina set the Swedish rail-speed record of 303 km/h (188 mph) on 2008-09-14;[2] the goal is to reach 250 km/h (155 mph) in regular service.[3]
The existing Regina units are short trains built for local and regional service, but in late 2007 it was announced that SJ were ordering twenty units furnished for inter-city service.[4] These trains, designated X55, will be used on the routes connecting Stockholm with Värmland and Dalarna[citation needed], allowing the displaced X 2000 units to be used instead to lengthen the busy trains running to Göteborg, Malmö, and Sundsvall.[5] These units will be four-carriage trains with a first-class section and an on-board bistro; they are to be delivered between April and August of 2010, with an option for another 20 units.

0 This happens to Cargo transported in Curtain Side Trailer by CordstrapShort demonstration of what happens to cargo during transportation behind the curtains of a curtain side trailer. You will get an up close view of an open curtain side trailer loaded with intermediate bulk containers and other cargo. When the truck comes to a halt unsecured cargo moves forward hitting other cargo inside the trailer. The impact causes a hole in the intermediate bulk container and the liquid spills out. After watching this video you will understand the importance of proper cargo securing during transportation. Often curtain sided vehicles do not have proper restraint straps inside, so you have to make sure your cargo is secured. The test in the video was performed at the Cordstrap Training and Testing Facility. We are the global leading organization for development, research, manufacturing and sales of cargo and load securing products and systems.

I’ll be pulling 20 foot equipment hauler with 8 utility trailers loaded on it weighing about 1000 lbs each, stacked 4 high (wheels removed). They have side rails, so they will be stack about 8+ feet high. I’m looking at some $40-50 dollar trucker ratcheting straps that have a work load limit of 5400 lbs and an assembly break strength of 16200 lbs. Am I overdoing it?

you’d be better off using chains and corner guards but straps will work. honestly it’s better to go to big than to small. spend the money and go with 4" straps uscargocontrol has a full line of different straps and chains binders, winches, etc. that’s where I’d go and look. they’re very reasonably priced unline 1st chain supply which will rip you off. bottom line is are you more worried about saving money or dumping 8 trailers. which brings me to why i use chains. they don’t slip like straps do and they don’t fray like straps do. ones a strap has a small cut it’s useless i’ve seen what happens when cut straps have been used and the outcome is never good. but check out uscargocontrol.com and see what they have to offer if you can’t find what you’re looking for you don’t need to be hauling stuff.
